Google Announces New Operating System
Just shortly after Microsoft re-launches their search engine yet again to try to compete with Google, Google ups the stakes and takes the battle to Microsoft. They announced last night that they are launching a brand new operating system called Google Chrome OS. That’s a pretty ballsey move for Google. Their is no question they have dominated the online world but Microsoft’s an awfully tough company to try to compete with on the operating system front. Many companies have tried but none have been anywhere near the size or have close to the resources and influence that Google has.
The Google Chrome OS is initially going to launch on low cost NetBooks but they won’t be available until the second half of 2010. Later this year, they are going to open up access to the OS as an open source operating system and invite companies to develop software for it.
I don’t know if they intend the software to replace Windows or if they are going to use it to target specialized hardware but it will be interesting to see how things unfold over the next year or two. You can read more information about it on Googles Blog
